Shockingly little. The trim is coming loose on the A pillars, and there are problems with a couple window regulators, of course. But that seems to be it. The car sounds great, pulls hard, and feels more or less brand new.

You are in my state, friend.

I’ve been here for a couple of years now. It’s not a bad state.

Where you at?

I am currently living in Winston-Salem for school, but working in Greensboro. I’ve been meaning to go to one of the cars and coffee events here for a while, but have sadly not been able to find the time. You?

Just south of Raleigh. There’s a C&C next to RDU in Morrisville next Saturday. A McLaren P1 often shows up.

I don’t trust you. What about your final stage resistor, or the B-pillar trim, or the expansion tank, or the FCABs or RTABs or the trim on the bottom of the sport steering wheel or the power steering reservoir seal or the oil pan gasket SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH YOUR CAR OR I WILL BE VERY UPSET WITH MINE

That is fair. No issues with the final stage resistor. I have not carefully looked at the B-pillar trim. If it is peeling, it can’t be too bad. There’s no way I would not have noticed. I had a through PPI done by a shop near where I work before I purchased the car. They told me the FCABs should be replaced, but I looked at them myself and did not find them to be particularly problematic. My usual mechanic agreed when I had new tires installed.

I am knocking on wood repeatedly as I type this, but seriously, there is virtually nothing wrong with it. Maybe it’s just to balance out the miserable nightmare that was my last car. I had an R53 Cooper S, and spent more than the purchase price in repairs within the first six months of ownership.

I think the bottom of the sport wheel is fine... What typically happens to it?

Very nice. I may have to make my way over there at some point then. I have yet to see one of those in person.

It’ll get chipped after a while from people with nervous driving habits or long fingernails.

Interesting. Well, here’s what mine looks like.

Update: I just looked. There is a little bit of peeling on the b-pillars.

I don’t think I have a picture of my old one. Also, do yourself a favor and get an M3 wheel. It will change your life. It’s also very easy to install.

Good to know. I’ll add it to the list. I got a zhp knob already. The stock one was a little loose.

First thing up to fix is the window regulators though. That's the only thing that really bothers me. Well, that and the A-pillar trim. Because I can always see it.

You will always be replacing the A pillar trim. I’ve replaced mine already (181k) and the replacements are starting to peel and sag. Might be easier to just take the fabric off of them and use a vinyl sheet or something instead.

Yeah, it seems to be pretty much unavoidable. My plan was to buy new replacements for the A-pillars and then attempt to fix my old ones in some way so I can reuse them when the new ones fail again. With the tan interior, I feel like vinyl might look more out of place than it might with a black or grey interior.

A permanent fabric adhesive would probably your best bet, which is what I’ll be trying next.

If it makes you feel better, I just discovered another problem. It looks like I need at least one differential bushing replaced. There is a bit of a clunk when I depress the clutch pedal while the engine is under load. My old E36 did this too, so I did not think much of it at first.

Might as well have them all done. Probably no less than $1,500.
